As we age, our face changes. And it’s not just about losing volume. At our Saratoga clinic on the Central Coast, we see this every day.
There are a few things happening at the same time. We lose collagen, our skin becomes thinner and less elastic, the fat pads in the face can shift and reduce, and even the underlying bone structure changes over time.
For women, these changes can also become more noticeable around perimenopause and menopause as oestrogen levels fall and we start to lose collagen more quickly. (You can read more about this at The M Clinic.)
You might notice that your cheeks look flatter, your jawline isn’t as defined, the under-eye area looks different, or that your face just doesn’t look quite the same as it used to.
The important thing is working out what is actually causing the change you’re seeing, because it’s not always just volume loss.
That really depends on what we find.
For some women, the biggest issue is skin quality. For others, it may be collagen loss, laxity, sun damage, pigmentation or changes in the deeper facial structures.
That’s why I don’t think there is one treatment that suits everybody.
At Coastal Goddess, we start by looking at your skin and facial ageing as a whole and talking about what is actually bothering you.
Depending on what we find, there are a number of treatments we can discuss, including Fotona laser, microneedling, skin resurfacing, LED therapy, professional skin treatments and professional skincare.
Often the focus is on improving the quality, firmness and texture of the skin, rather than volume alone.
That’s our job.
If you’ve noticed changes in your face and you’re not sure what can be improved or what treatment would suit you, book a skin consultation.
Your 45-minute consultation ($120) is with Amanda or Lexy from our skin team. We’ll have a proper look, talk through what you’re noticing and work out what options are appropriate for you.
