My Neck Starts Here
Why your skincare routine — and your treatment plan — shouldn’t stop at your jawline.
Have you ever had a facial that felt like your neck got a quick lick and a flick?
Or you’ve walked away thinking…
“That was nice…but was it actually worth the money?”
Let’s be honest.
Money is tight.
We’re all thinking a little harder before spending it, and if we’re investing in our skin, we want results. We want every dollar to count.
As a cosmetic nurse in my mid-forties, I see firsthand the difference that regular treatments can make. Not one miracle treatment. Not the latest trend. Just consistency.
And there’s one area I see neglected over and over again…
The neck and décolletage.
As my beautiful client Kayna says…
“My neck starts here.” — Kayna
I absolutely love that saying because it’s true.
When you’re cleansing, moisturising, applying serums or sunscreen…your routine shouldn’t stop at your jawline.
The neck and chest are often one of the first places to show changes in our skin. The skin is thinner, it receives years of sun exposure, and unlike our face, we often forget to care for it until those little lines, pigmentation or crepey texture start appearing.
So if you’re paying for a beautiful facial, I’d expect your therapist to be looking after your face, neck and décolletage.
That means a proper cleanse.
A thorough treatment.
Serums.
Moisturiser.
The whole lot.
Not a quick wipe on the way past.
If I could recommend just two treatments for this area…
01Skin Needling
Still one of my absolute favourites.
It’s brilliant for improving texture, refining the skin, softening fine lines and stimulating collagen production over time. If you’re prepared to commit to a series of treatments, many people start noticing a real difference by month three.
02Laser
If you’re looking for maximum results with minimal downtime, laser is hard to beat.
It resurfaces the skin, improves tone and texture, and helps stimulate collagen — often with more visible change per treatment than people expect going in.
And can I just say…
It’s winter!
This is laser season.
With less UV exposure and cooler weather, it’s one of the best times of year to invest in treatments before spring and summer arrive.
Your home routine matters too.
Clinic treatments are like taking your skin to the gym.
But what you do every morning and every night is what keeps those results going.
Winter changes our skin.
Indoor heating, cold winds and lower humidity can all leave skin feeling dry, tight and a little unhappy. Then summer comes along and suddenly we’re managing oil, pigmentation or breakouts.
Our skincare should adapt with the seasons because our skin does.
One of my favourite winter rituals is a beautiful cream cleanser.
I’m completely in love with ours.
The smell.
The texture.
The way it glides onto dry skin.
If I’m wearing makeup, I’ll double cleanse. If I’m not, I’ll still take a minute to enjoy it because skincare shouldn’t always feel like another job on the to-do list.
And here’s a little confession…
There have definitely been days when my ADHD has been in full swing, I’ve applied my cleanser, wandered off to do five jobs around the house…and realised hours later it’s still on my face!
Thankfully it’s so gentle and moisturising that my skin has never complained.
One last tip…
If you’ve bought an expensive skincare product that your face doesn’t love…
Don’t throw it away.
If it’s appropriate for your skin and isn’t causing irritation, try using it on your neck and décolletage instead.
Those areas deserve beautiful skincare too.
So next time you’re having a facial…
Don’t let your treatment stop at your chin.
Include your neck.
Include your chest.
Whether you’re having a facial, skin needling or laser, that extra investment is one of the best things you can do for your skin in the long term.
Trust me.
A few months from now, you’ll thank yourself…
Because after all…
Your neck starts here 🙂
